Production introduction

The foinbo®  Early Suppression Fast Response (ESFR) sprinkler head represents a revolutionary advancement in fire protection technology, specifically engineered to address the unique challenges posed by high-piled storage facilities, warehouses, and industrial environments. Unlike conventional sprinkler systems designed to control fires until manual intervention, ESFR sprinklers are engineered to suppress or extinguish fires at their inception, minimizing damage, reducing water usage, and enhancing occupant safety.

ESFR sprinklers integrate three critical innovations:

  • Rapid Activation: Equipped with fast-response thermal elements, ESFR heads activate within seconds of detecting a predetermined temperature threshold (typically 165°F–200°F). This swift response is crucial in high-challenge fires, where rapid flame spread and intense heat generation can overwhelm traditional systems.
  • High-Momentum Water Discharge: ESFR heads deliver water at exceptionally high velocities, producing large, forceful droplets capable of penetrating the thermal column generated by flammable materials like plastics, paper, or chemicals. This penetration disrupts the fire's oxygen supply and cools the fuel source, achieving suppression before the fire escalates.
  • Hemispherical Spray Pattern: The deflector design creates a wide, downward-focused spray pattern, ensuring uniform coverage of storage areas up to 40 feet in height. This pattern is optimized to combat fires in high-rack storage configurations, where vertical flames and dense smoke complicate suppression efforts.

FAQ

Q: What does ESFR stand for in sprinkler heads?

A: ESFR stands for Early Suppression Fast Response, designed to suppress high-challenge fires rapidly by delivering high-momentum water droplets.

Q: How do ESFR sprinklers differ from conventional sprinklers?

A: ESFR heads release larger droplets with greater momentum (e.g., 60 GPM vs. 25–30 GPM for conventional heads) and activate faster (165°F–214°F vs. 135°F–170°F).

Q: What is the typical K-factor range for ESFR sprinklers?

A: Common K-factors are 11.2, 14.7, 17.0, and 25.2, determining water flow efficiency (e.g., K25.2 delivers 300+ GPM at 50 psi).

Q: What activation temperatures do ESFR sprinklers use?

A: They operate at 165°F–214°F (74°C–101°C), using glass bulbs or fusible links for rapid thermal response.

Q:How does ESFR sprinkler deflector design enhance performance?

A: The small deflector creates a hemispherical spray pattern, ensuring uniform coverage up to 40 feet high and penetrating fire plumes effectively.
