Foam Chamber Fire Fighting

Foam Chamber Fire Fighting

Foinbo® Foam chambers are critical firefighting devices designed to suppress fires involving flammable and combustible liquids, such as oil, gasoline, chemicals, and solvents. They are widely used in industries like petrochemical refineries, oil storage terminals, chemical plants, and aviation fueling facilities, where the risk of large-scale liquid fires poses a significant threat to life, property, and the environment.

Production introduction

Foinbo® Foam chambers are critical firefighting devices designed to suppress fires involving flammable and combustible liquids, such as oil, gasoline, chemicals, and solvents. They are widely used in industries like petrochemical refineries, oil storage terminals, chemical plants, and aviation fueling facilities, where the risk of large-scale liquid fires poses a significant threat to life, property, and the environment.

Foam chambers operate on the principle of top-down foam application, delivering a protective foam blanket over the surface of burning or flammable liquids. When activated, they mix foam concentrate with water at a predetermined ratio (typically 3% or 6%) to produce a high-expansion foam solution. This mixture is then discharged through a specially designed deflector, which spreads the foam evenly across the liquid surface.

Applications:

Fixed-Roof & Floating-Roof Tanks: Protects against spill fires and rim seal fires in oil storage tanks.

Maritime & Offshore Installations: Used on oil tankers, FPSOs, and terminals to suppress spills and deck fires.

Chemical & Pharmaceutical Plants: Controls fires involving hazardous liquids in processing and storage areas.

Aircraft Hangars & Fueling Stations: Mitigates risks from aviation fuel spills and vapor-related fires.

FAQ

Q: What is a foam chamber?

A: A foam chamber is a fixed firefighting device that generates and discharges foam onto flammable liquid surfaces to suppress fires.

Q: How does a foam chamber work?

A: It mixes foam concentrate with water under pressure, creating foam that is projected through a deflector to cover the liquid surface.

Q: What types of foam do foam chambers use?

A: Aqueous Film-Forming Foam (AFFF), Alcohol-Resistant AFFF (AR-AFFF), and protein/fluoroprotein foams are common.

Q: What is the principle of foam suppression?

A: Foam blankets the liquid surface, cutting off oxygen supply, cooling the fuel, and suppressing vapor release.

Q: Where are foam chambers installed?

A: Oil storage tanks, chemical plants, refineries, aircraft hangars, and marine fuel terminals.
