Production introduction

Foinbo® AFFF Liquid Foam Concentrate is a specialized firefighting agent designed to rapidly extinguish and prevent reignition of Class B fires involving flammable liquids such as gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, solvents, and oils. Recognized globally for its effectiveness in aviation, marine, oil and gas, and industrial applications, AFFF combines rapid knockdown capabilities with a durable vapor-suppressing film, making it indispensable in high-risk environments.

AFFF concentrate is a synthetic, water-based solution containing fluorinated surfactants, hydrocarbon surfactants, solvents, and stabilizers. When mixed with water (typically at 1%–6% concentration, depending on the formulation), it generates a homogeneous foam solution. Upon discharge, this solution forms a low-expansion foam blanket that spreads rapidly across the fuel surface, achieving two critical effects:

Vapor Suppression: The aqueous film created by AFFF cuts off oxygen supply, preventing reignition.

Cooling & Sealing: The foam blanket cools the fire and blocks the release of flammable vapors, ensuring sustained suppression.
Foinbo® AFFF formulations are increasingly PFAS-free, replacing traditional perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) with environmentally friendly alternatives such as short-chain fluorosurfactants or fluorine-free polymers, reducing ecological impact without compromising performance.

FAQ

Q: What is AFFF Foam Concentrate?

A: AFFF (Aqueous Film-Forming Foam) is a synthetic firefighting agent that combines fluorinated surfactants, hydrocarbon surfactants, solvents, and stabilizers to form a water-based solution. When mixed with water, it generates a low-expansion foam that spreads rapidly over flammable liquids, forming a vapor-suppressing aqueous film to extinguish fires.

Q: How does AFFF work?

A: AFFF works through two mechanisms:

Aqueous Film Formation: A thin water-based film floats on the fuel surface, cutting off oxygen supply.

Foam Blanket Stability: The foam layer insulates the fuel, preventing reignition and cooling the fire.

Q: What types of fires is AFFF effective against?

A:  AFFF is designed for Class B fires involving flammable liquids such as:

  • Gasoline
  • Diesel
  • Jet fuel
  • Solvents
  • Oils

Q: What is the recommended mixing ratio for AFFF?

A: 1%–6% concentration (e.g., 1–6 parts AFFF to 99–94 parts water).

Common ratios: 1% for hydrocarbon fuels, 3%–6% for polar solvents.

Q: What discharge devices can be used with AFFF?

A:

  • Aspirating nozzles (for high-expansion foam)
  • Non-aspirating nozzles (for low-expansion foam)
  • Foam chambers & monitors
  • Sprinkler systems
